Mission

The mission of the NumPor SRI Center is twofold: to establish numerical porous media as a new research excellence area in KAUST; and to work toward bridging the gap between the research and education activities of KAUST and the needs of the industry from the region. Advanced computational and modeling techniques are being used to develop and analyze new models, to develop new numerical approaches and software tools for solving a wide range of porous media processes and to apply these developments to problems of interest for industry, academic and governmental institutions from KAUST, Saudi Arabia and the region.

Methodology

Advanced computational and modeling techniques are being used to develop new tools for solving a wide range of porous media processes and to apply these tools to problems of interest to KAUST and Saudi Arabia. The Center’s research cores are:
  • Core 1: Fundamental Methods and Concepts;
  • Core 2: Simulation, Information Interaction, and Visualization;
  • Core 3: Solution Strategies for Selected Applications which combine multi-disciplinary expertise to solve important problems in porous media.
While each core is positioned to push research frontiers, through cross-core collaboration the Center provides solutions to key problems that are of interest to many applications.
